EDUCATION
Humane Education at the Spartanburg Humane Society
Educating our community about homeless animals, solutions to pet overpopulation, compassionate and responsible pet care is an important part of our core mission at the Spartanburg Humane Society.
We know that no one is ever too young or too old to learn or to explore their love for animals. Our Humane Education Department offers opportunities for all ages.
Programs are held at the Humane Society, in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and outdoors at events and festivals throughout the County.
Many groups or classes like to incorporate a service learning project and do an in-kind donation drive where they collect food or other items for the animals in our care. You can visit our wish list page for the items we currently need. Please remember that we are a non-profit organization funded by donations from those in our community. All program donations allow us to continue educating the community about companion animals and allow us to care for the animals that need us.

Classroom Programs
The overall mission of the Spartanburg Humane Society is to provide quality care and find homes for lost and unwanted animals while educating the public about responsible pet care.
The Spartanburg Humane Society’s full-service Education Department was designed to utilize the state standards of the South Carolina Education Department by using animals as a catalyst to encourage learning, teach respect, and broaden each participant’s sense of compassion. At the Spartanburg Humane Society, we are dedicated to providing young children and youth with tools and strategies for becoming responsible pet owners while simultaneously developing strong character skills.

Tour the Spartanburg Humane Society
Educational tours are available by appointment. Guided tours of our adoption facility provide a wonderful, interactive way to learn more about the Humane Society, why animals are here, and how we care for them. If time allows, we like to include a hands-on project, such as making cat or dog toys, stuffing treat Kongs or preparing donated newspapers for the small animal kennels.
Tours for youth and adult groups may be scheduled, based on facility availability, during the hours of 11:00AM. to 5:00PM Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. All age groups are welcome.
Tour groups are limited to a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 15 (including chaperones). Groups larger than 15 individuals will need to schedule separate tours. To help ensure a quality learning environment, we ask that there is 1 adult chaperone per 5 children under the age of 18.
The fee for a tour is $50.00 (cash, check, or credit card) or an estimated donation value of $50.00 in goods (food, paper products, clinic supplies, toys, cleaning supplies, etc.) This fee allows us to reserve the activity room and ensure the staffing required for your visit is available during your reserved time.
To reach the Humane Education Department call 864-583-4805, ext. 118 or e-mail us your question.
